just a message to inform you guys:
There is an event called Stand Up, Speak Out Against Poverty and Inequality on 17th October, 2007 (coming wednesday) in OUR VERY OWN SCHOOL (RGS)!! GET READY FOR RGS STANDS UP!.
Stand Up Against Poverty - an international event - is about renewing our promises and reminding our leaders of the United Nations' Millenium Development Goals, which are supposed to be met in 2015.
"The promise to end poverty inequality and hunger. The promise to stop children dying from preventable diseases. The promise to ensure basic education for all children, particularly girls. The promise to stop women dying during pregnancy and childbirth. The promise to provide water and sanitation and to protect the environment. The promise to provide more and better aid, fair trade and debt cancellation. The promise to achieve these goals by 2015. The promises that some of them [world leaders] have not kept."To sum up what rgs will be doing: we will be 1. taking a pledge against poverty, 2. putting their handprints on various end poverty banners around the school, 3. watching videos/documentaries on poverty issues. Students (and teachers) are welcome to wear school-approved white tees, as well as white wristbands/ strings around their wrists. RGS STANDS UP! will be covered by the media :)Information on RGS STANDS UP! (including the day's programme) can be found here:

In the meanwhile, PLEASE FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO YOUR CLASSES AND PUBLICIZE EXTENSIVELY. We have not been able to tell yall about this because many in the school population were not present in school on friday. The livejournal link above also includes various spunky images and buttons for you to use and promote on your webpages.(If you know a chairperson who has switched emails and is not using the address that I've sent this email to, please forward to their new address.)We are aware that our timings for the various activities may not fit the entire school population (some of you don't need to come for Singapore pledge-taking on wednesday?), and are trying to work out a schedule that will fit everybody. Please keep checking inet for updates.Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing everyone STANDING UP AND SPEAKING OUT AGAINST POVERTY on that day!
